Evidence for RPL
An RPL decision is only as good as its evidence. Here is what your assessor looks for, and the kinds of evidence candidates typically provide.
Rules of Evidence
What your assessor looks for
Whatever you provide — work samples, records, referees, a competency conversation — your assessor weighs it against four rules, applied to every learner the same way.
1
Valid
Your evidence relates directly to the skills and knowledge in the qualification.
2
Sufficient
There is enough evidence for an assessor to be confident in the decision.
3
Authentic
The evidence is genuinely your own work and can be independently confirmed.
4
Current
The evidence reflects your skills as they are now, not only in the past.
What you can provide
Evidence candidates typically gather
This is a guide, not a fixed checklist — your assessor confirms exactly what is needed for your qualification. A résumé is useful background, but it is not counted as evidence on its own.
Payslips or employment records
Confirm where and when you worked.
Position descriptions
Show the tasks and responsibilities of your role.
Work samples
De-identified documents, plans or records you produced at work.
Certificates and training records
Short courses, tickets or in-house training you have completed.
Referee details
A supervisor or manager who can verify your experience.
A completed Third Party Report
A signed report from a supervisor or manager who has known your work for 6+ months, confirming your skills and experience.
Photos or videos of your work
Where appropriate and with any needed permissions.
