What RPL is

Recognition for the skills you already have

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a genuine assessment. If your evidence meets the standard, those units are recognised. Where it doesn't, we tell you honestly what gap training is needed. RPL is available for every qualification we offer, and you can ask about it before you enrol.

Already hold formal qualifications? If you have completed an equivalent unit or qualification elsewhere, you may be entitled to Credit Transfer from your certificate or transcript — a simpler path than RPL, at no assessment cost. Ask our team which applies to you.

Outcomes & your rights

Every outcome is honest — and appealable

An RPL assessment has three possible outcomes. Whatever the result, you have the right to appeal.

Fully recognised
You are assessed competent in all units. Your certification documentation is issued and we contact you about collection.
Partly recognised
Some units are recognised now. You receive a Statement of Attainment for those, plus a written gap-training plan for the rest, with its timeline and any fees.
Not recognised this time
The evidence available was not enough to recognise the units against the required standard. This reflects the evidence assessed, not your ability — you can enrol in the training pathway, and fees are handled per our refund policy.
Your right to appeal

If you disagree with any assessment decision, you can appeal under our Complaints and Appeals Policy. Your appeal is reviewed by a person not involved in the original decision, and it is at no cost to you. We also offer language, literacy and numeracy support and reasonable adjustments — just ask.

Common questions

Recognition of Prior Learning is an assessment of the skills and knowledge you already have, against the requirements of a qualification. If your evidence meets the standard, those units can be recognised without you repeating the training.
No. RPL is a genuine assessment, not a purchase or a fast-track. A qualified assessor reviews your evidence against the unit requirements, and units are only recognised where the evidence meets the standard.
Credit Transfer recognises units you have already completed and been certified for with another training provider. RPL assesses the skills and experience you have gained through work and life, even without formal certification.
Fees depend on the qualification and the number of units being assessed — see our RPL Pricing page for a guide. You receive a confirmed quote before committing, and the readiness self-check is free.
It mostly depends on how quickly you can supply your evidence. Once a complete portfolio is submitted, assessment typically takes a few weeks, and your assessor keeps you updated at every step.
You only complete gap training for the specific units where evidence didn't meet the standard — never the whole course again. Your assessor will map out exactly what's left.
Yes. Language, literacy and numeracy support and reasonable adjustments are available throughout the RPL process — tell us what you need and we will build it into your assessment plan.
